Should you invest in a GPS dog tracking collar?
In my opinion there is nothing worse than having a missing pet and not knowing which direction to look. When your dog is lost in an area he is not familiar with, it’s impossible to know how he will react. Will he run to the road? Will he hide? This is why I feel investing in a good-quality GPS dog tracking collar is crucial.
If you have lost a pet, you know that helpless, scared to death feeling. Good GPS dog tracking collars have the capability of locating your pet quickly and pretty accurately.
I have been researching different tracking collars because the thought of not being able to find my dogs if they get loose is terrible. Because of this, I thought I would write a review based on my experience.
In this Pod 2 GPS + Wifi Pet Tracker Review, I will talk about how well it works, how durable it is, pros and cons, and where to get the best deal when you buy it online. At the end of my review, you should have a good idea if the Pod 2 GPS + Wifi Pet Tracker is right for you.
The Pod 2 GPS + Wifi Pet Tracker was created to locate your pet in real time. You set up a “safe zone” or “boundary” and when your pet leaves that area, it will send alerts to your phone. It also keeps track of your pets fitness levels so you can make sure he is getting enough exercise.
This tracker proclaims they are the smallest and lightest tracker on the market and can fit onto any collar your dog or cat wears. According to the manufacturer, you will be able to locate your pet quickly and it delivers the information to your smartphone or computer. The Wifi capability allows you to locate your pet even if he is indoors.
The Pod relies on 2G phone coverage to send notifications to your phone or computer.
Of course the science behind this is very impressive but does it actually work? The rest of my review will be dedicated to my experiences with this product.

I enjoyed researching this product because it is designed to do something that means a lot to me. I know what its like to lose pets and I cant help but think how many cats I may have saved had this been on the market 20 years ago. For me, its like a dream come true.
There are a few different tracking collars and devices available today. Some work with GPS and your smart phones, some don’t connect to your phone at all but send maps and locations directly to the handheld tracker. From my research, these types of trackers are very good if you engage in outdoor sports with your pet. (For example, hiking and hunting) The range is usually around 2 miles, from what I’ve read.
The Pod 2 GPS + Wifi Tracker received pretty decent reviews online. The average customer gives high praise when it comes to actually locating your roaming pet. It is easy to put together and and it is easy to understand.
What does it come with?
The Pod 2 GPS comes with the Pod, a charging dock, 2 straps to put the tracker on your pet’s collar, and 2 ion batteries.
Your pet will never go without the tracker because whenever the Pod app tells you that the battery is low, you can switch the empty battery from the Pod with the full one from the charger. This prevents you from forgetting to put the GPS back on your pet after charging, which is important.
The straps for your collar are pretty basic, they can be a little tough to get on the collar, but that really depends on you. Once on, they should fit almost any collar perfectly.
The packaging is nice, the product is solid and doesn’t look cheap. Once you put it together, an easy process, you set up the app on your phone or computer, another easy process.
How does it work?
Once the Pod is put on your pet’s collar and the app downloaded on your phone/computer, you charge it up and turn it on. There can be a time lag between the initiating looking for your pet and seeing the actual location, however that is usually a few seconds, up to 2 minutes max. Once your pet is located, it is updated automatically.
You can track your pets activity level, sleeping, walking and running. This really is good extra info to have.
It also takes up to 6 hours of video so you can capture what your pet is doing when he goes missing.
Pros and Cons-
- Sometimes the POD will shut itself off, whether that’s due to the pet rolling around and turning it off, I am not sure. It doesn’t happen a lot though
- 2G network- they are in process of updating to a 3G product- I am fine either way but I will be curious about the new one when it comes out
- Sometimes location is not exact
- Before now, even locating the area your pet was lost in was impossible. Any tracker that can do that, I am happy with.
- Battery life is 6 days, which is excellent
Where to buy-
Since I have researched this product a lot, of course I looked for the best place to buy it.
Amazon offers the Pod GPS + Wifi Tracker plus free shipping, a 30-day guarantee, AND you can get it really quick. If you order today, you can potentially have it tomorrow. If the Pod doesn’t do what you think it will, you can send it back, no questions asked.
Overall, I think this is a great product. They are a relatively new company but they have our pets’ best interests at heart. I would highly recommend this product if you are like me and worry what will happen if your pets get out. Like I mentioned above, it also gives you bonus features of tracking your pets sleeping, walking and running habits, which is also really good info to have.
This may not be a perfect product, but it does pretty much what it says it will do. And the peace of mind is well worth it.
